Carl Bruning is running for Sheriff in Larimer County, Colorado, and has the backing of former Sheriff Richard Mack, Colorado State Senator Kevin Lundberg, and the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners PAC. His campaign has been mentioned in an Associated Press article, and Carl has been interviewed on Fox News radio. He has worked on several political campaigns, including managing Ron Paul’s Presidential campaign in Colorado and Wyoming. Carl actively champions traditional values of life, liberty, small government, and low taxes.
“It is time for the sworn protectors of our liberty, the sheriffs of these United States of America, to walk tall and stand up for our Constitution and Bill of Rights, ” Carl proudly proclaims. “I will defend your rights to life, liberty, property, firearms, and freedom.”
Carl was nominated to the U.S. Air Force by Senator Barry Goldwater and graduated in 1984. Senator Goldwater was concerned about our individual liberties as guaranteed in the Constitution and believed that we had already surrendered too many of our freedoms to the federal establishment.
At the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation ceremony in 1984, Carl had the honor of meeting President Ronald Reagan, whom he admired and deeply respected.
Carl completed U.S. Air Force Pilot Training in 1985, and received the “Distinguished Academic Graduate” award, having flown the Cessna T-37 and Northrop T-38 Talon jets and scoring six perfect Q-1 check rides.
As an aircraft commander in the Lockheed C-130E/H “Hercules” aircraft, Carl led aircrews on tactical airlift missions worldwide. He was also selected to fly the top-secret, multi-million dollar EC-130H electronic-jamming aircraft at Davis-Monthan AFB.
When Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990, Carl was first in his unit to deploy to Operation Desert Shield to defend Saudi Arabia from invasion by Iraq. He was selected because of his leadership, and flew his first mission against Iraq. Following Desert Storm, Carl received an Honorable Discharge from the USAF in 1991.
In 1992, Carl earned a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix and began a successful second career in business management. He has worked for GDS, Sony, SealCorp, Covad Communications, VeriSign, and as a consultant, and has held senior executive positions such as General Manager and Vice President for National Sales. His hard work yielded financial success, which enabled Carl to volunteer and fight for our Liberty.
Carl’s desire to return to the Rocky Mountains brought him to Fort Collins, Colorado, in 2006. He believes in serving in the community, and was on the Larimer County Citizen Corps board. He is also a CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) trained member, and worked with the Larimer County Sheriff’s office, Loveland Fire, and FC Emergency Manager.
